Stargazing at the Latitude Festival 2011: part 2

Last weekend I was invited to attend the Latitude Festival to carry out stargazing sessions on the Friday and Saturday nights. In the event it was cloudy on both nights (and raining on the Saturday night) and so instead of stargazing I gave a short talk about the planets in our solar system and exoplanets around other stars.

I had no idea how many people to expect at each of these events, but in the end I was delighted that on both nights somewhere near 1000 people came to see me speak. This definitely illustrates that there is an appetite for astronomy in audiences that you might not necessarily expect it.

I was invited to Latitude by the theatre company Curious Directive, who were putting on their excellent new dance performance “Exoplanets” (funded by an STFC small award).
