Stargazers Welcome

Last month Dan Hillier (Dark Sky Scotland) and I presented a workshop at Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park for local tourism business providers, on how they can take advantage of the park’s new status as the UK’s first International Dark Sky Park.

As part of this workshop I produced a 25-page “Stargazers Welcome Pack”, crammed full of useful advice on how to get visitors to the park stargazing. This pack is available from Galloway Forest Park via 01671 402420 or galloway@forestry.gsi.gov.uk

You can also get hold of their logo  if you’re a local business and want to use it to attract visitors.

All this will hopefully lead to a Stargazers Welcome scheme, much like the Walkers Welcome scheme that is currently run by Visit Scotland, encouraging hotels, B&Bs and other tourism providers to turn their lights down and bring astronomers to their dark skies.
